Gowercroft Joinery are commited to a policy of environmental sustainability

QUICK FACTS

Our 16,000 square foot workshop produces less than 5,000 kilograms of landfill each year. (The domestic average per person, per year is just over 600 kilograms.)

Our wood shavings are purchased by a local farm for bedding animals.

Our small wood off-cuts are currently used for domestic heating and small-scale woodworking projects.

All joinery products brought back from sites across the U.K. are fully disassembled; with glass and ironmongery recycled and the wood burnt in domestic applications (where the paint system allows).

We are working closely with Construction I-Net to devise ways to continue reducing our impact. These solutions include:

    ● Working towards a paper-less office, through the installation of a new I.T. and E.R.P. system.

   ● Planning installation of solar panels and a bio-fuel furnace.

We exclusively use water-based paints and finishes. These coatings do not release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which are toxic to the environment and can be carcinogenic to humans and animals.

Water-based paints are safe for disposal into the drains, and have a long shelf life. Products painted with water-based paints are safe to burn in domestic applications at the end of their service life – so our products do not end up in the landfill.

The R3 policy is coupled with a desire to use the most sustainable and long-lasting materials available to our industry. Gowercroft were among the first companies in the U.K. to embrace Accoya® timber, and we have successfully installed slim-line glazing units in many restricted-planning properties.
